Bristle Blaster® Pneumatic (SP-647-BMC)
The industry standard for grit-free blasting. Simultaneously removes corrosion and generates anchor profile.
Applications · Singapore
Tight, blue-black mill scale removed from new plate, sections and fabricated steel before priming, in the fabrication shop or on the erection site, without a blast pot.
The problem on site
Mill scale is well bonded when the steel leaves the mill, but it is electrochemically noble to the steel beneath, so once moisture reaches the interface (quickly, in Singapore) it lifts and takes the paint with it. Specifications for structural steel, tanks and pipework therefore require scale removal to Sa 2½ before the primer.
For fabricators without a blast booth, for site-welded steel where the shop primer has burned back, and for the touch-up of scale left after blasting, Flakecoat supplies and uses Bristle Blaster® tools that remove mill scale and generate the profile in one pass, with no grit to sweep out of a fabrication bay.
For the specification
How it is done
Remove oil and marking ink first; scale removal does not remove contamination and the primer will not tolerate it.
Work with the belt rotation across the scale; the tips fracture and lift the scale and cut the anchor profile beneath.
Section edges, fillet welds and inside corners with the narrow belt or the Axial model.
Apply shop or site primer promptly; freshly prepared steel flash-rusts in Singapore’s humidity within hours.

Freshly prepared carbon steel can show flash rust within a few hours at 80%+ humidity. Prepare only what will be primed in the same shift.
Yes; working speed drops with scale thickness. For large tonnages a blast booth remains the economic choice; the tool is for site work, touch-up and shops without a booth.
Yes, on site and in our Tuas workshop, followed by priming with the specified system.
Photos, drawings or a site walk are enough to start. SGD pricing, tools and crews from Tuas.
