Spark-free, grit-free preparation in hazardous zones

ATEX-approved pneumatic Bristle Blaster® tools let corrosion repairs proceed on live units at Jurong Island, terminals and tank farms under the site permit-to-work, without a blast crew or a shutdown.

The problem on site

Why this is done grit-free in Singapore

On a zoned unit the limiting factor is what the permit will allow. Grinding discs and grit blasting introduce ignition and containment problems that push the work into the next turnaround, and in the meantime the corrosion continues.

The pneumatic Bristle Blaster® is available in ATEX-approved versions for use in explosive atmospheres. It is air-driven, generates no open spark or grit cloud, and removes rust to a coating-ready standard. Flakecoat supplies the tool certificates, method statement and risk assessment for the permit, and our crews are inducted with Singapore’s major operators.

Questions

Common questions

Learn more about our heritage and the specialized services we provide.

Is the Bristle Blaster® certified for Zone 1 / Zone 2?

ATEX-approved pneumatic versions are available; the certificate states the zone and gas group. We supply it with the quotation so your safety team can check it against the area classification.

Does the tool still need a hot-work permit?

That is the site owner’s call. The tool has no open flame or electric motor, but most operators still run it under a permit-to-work with a specific risk assessment; we prepare the documents.

Can you mobilise at short notice for a live-plant repair?

Tools and consumables are stocked in Tuas and crews hold current inductions for the main sites; contact us with the location and scope.
